3rd European KIDS Regio Forum

More than 80 experts from all over Europe will meet in Weimar/Germany from 27 to 28
June for the conference entitled “Connecting the Dots – Towards a vital European
children’s film culture”.

The future of European children’s film will be discussed on June 27 and 28, 2019 at the 3rd
KIDS Regio Forum in Weimar. Similar to the last two conferences in 2009 and 2014, players
from the film industry as well as political and cultural decision makers will meet to discuss the
status quo and future vision of the European children’s film.
It is expected that more than 80 participants from different European countries will take part –
in addition to film scholars, authors, directors and producers, representatives of
broadcasters, world sales companies, distributors, sponsors, as well as politicians and
representatives of various interest groups will be participating. An interactive and
interdisciplinary conference design will be the base for developing reasonable demands that
will influence national and European film policy and production in the coming years.
The core topics of the conference include distribution and access to European children’s
films beyond its national borders, the marketing of the films as well as a positive image
building of children’s films as cultural assets with a high socio-cultural relevance. Above all,
the overriding goal is to achieve even closer cooperation on a European level in order to
make children’s films better represented in legislative processes, in the allocation of
subsidies and in other moments of film policy decision-making.

During both days, the Forum will offer lectures on scientific studies, successful European film
projects and new developments in film funding. Within Think Tanks, the participants will also
actively engage in discussions about the current situation, explore synergies and develop
ideas and strategies to strengthen children’s film in Europe.
This year’s KIDS Regio Forum is under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Benjamin-Immanuel Hoff,
Head of the Thuringian State Chancellery and Minister for Federal and European Affairs. He
will welcome the European experts in a keynote speech at the beginning of the conference.
